The Spring recruiting window is heating up and Minnesota added its fourth 2025 verbal commitment from (Mentor, Ohio) tight end Cross Nimmo Thursday. Listed at 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, he has size you simply cannot teach — he chose Minnesota over other top offers from Illinois, Rutgers and Louisville.
Who is Cross Nimmo?
Cross Nimmo is much more than just a unique name. Hailing from Mentor, Ohio — a Cleveland suburb with a population of just over 50,000, he attends Lake Catholic High School, a private school with an enrollment of just over 450 students. He is a three-sport athlete, also playing basketball and competing in Track & Field when he’s not focused on the gridiron.
As a junior, he played on both sides of the ball for the Cougars, also contributing on the edge of the defensive line where he finished with four sacks. As a pass catcher, he lined up all over the field, in the slot, outside and as a traditional tight end. He compiled 30 receptions, 801 yards and 15 touchdowns, leading his team to a 10-3 record. He got his first scholarship offer last May from Toledo, the same day he was offered from the Gophers. 11 other FBS schools followed and he unofficially visited Illinois, Louisville and Rutgers before settling on Minnesota.
At 6-foot-6, 225 pounds, Nimmo size is clearly the first thing to jump off the page. But he is an incredibly impressive athlete for someone his size. He showed versatility playing in multiple positions as a pass catcher and he showed intriguing route running ability. There is a reason the Gophers got involved early in his recruitment and he will be a fascinating long-term prospect.
What is next?
Nimmo is now the fourth player player verbally committed to the Gophers’ 2025 class. 247sports ranks the class as No. 41 in the country. Looking ahead, Minnesota has locked up dozens of official visits for late this Spring, during its annual “Summer Splash” event on June 14-16. So that is definitely a date to circle as it relates to recruiting news. Be on the lookout at Goldgophers.com for all recruiting-related as things heat up.
