Gophers flip Wisconsin DL commit Torin Pettaway

The Gophers continue to build their 2025 recruiting class, this time flipping Middleton, Wisconsin DL Torin Pettaway away from border-rival Wisconsin. He publicly de-committed from the Badger and flipped to Minnesota all in the span of a few minutes — one can assume it did not happen that quickly in reality. Less than a week after adding Zachry Harden as their first commit of 2025, Minnesota’s class is starting to heat up.

Who is Torin Pettaway?:

Currently ranked as the No. 654th best player in the class of 2025, Torin Pettaway attends Middleton High School, in Middleton Wisconsin. With a population of just over 20,000, Middleton is a hop, skip and a jump from Madison. Torin is an incredibly talented all-around athlete, also starring on the school’s varsity basketball team since his sophomore season. Following his junior season of football the offers started flowing in from USC, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Illinois and Minnesota. He committed to his hometown Badgers earlier this month, before deciding to flip to the Maroon & Gold.

• Scouting Report:

Standing at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, Pettaway already has elite size for the position. He has all of the traits of a high-ceiling Big Ten player at the defensive line position. Currently ranked as a high-three star on 247sports, he certainly has the potential to contribute very early in his college career and has a very high long-term ceiling thanks to his tremendous athleticism and size alone.

What is next?:

Pettaway was one of two big-time additions to the Gophers’ 2025 class on Thursday. Joining Zachry Harden, Minnesota now has two great defensive building blocks for their class this cycle. By next winter we could be looking at Pettaway as one of the best players in the Gophers’ class.
