BREAKING: Georgia transfer Tyler Williams commits to Minnesota

Former 4-star recruit Tyler Williams has officially committed to Minnesota.

PJ Fleck and the Gophers staff are truly on an unprecedented recruiting run. Former top-100 Georgia 4-star wide receiver Tyler Williams committed to the program after taking a visit earlier this week. Coming out of high school in Lakeland, Florida Williams was viewed as one of the best wide receivers in the entire country, but he will now be playing football in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Williams was an incredibly highly-touted prospect coming out of Lakeland, Florida, he chose the Bulldogs over top offers from Alabama, Oklahoma and Clemson. 247sports ranked him as the No. 111 overall prospect in the class of 2023, slotting him as a 4-star recruit. He played in two games as a true freshman last season on a loaded UGA roster.

He joins an already talented WR room in Dinkytown. Last year’s leading receiver Daniel Jackson is still expected to be new QB Max Brosmer’s No. 1 target, but Williams will now have the opportunity to compete with Elijah Spencer and Le’Meke Brockington for the No. 2 spot.

As a redshirt freshman joining the program in the spring, I don’t know if he will hit the ground running game one vs. North Carolina, but he has the potential and skill to be a game-changing play-maker for Minnesota. If I had to guess, Brockington might be the No. 2 guy for much of the season, but Spencer and Williams will likely compete for the Y role on the other side of Jackson.

From a pure recruiting standpoint, this sends an absolutely massive message to Gophers fans and the rest of the Big Ten. Koi Perich, Jaxon Howard and Tyler Williams are all elite, elite prospects that Minnesota has historically struggled to recruit. There is no-telling for sure how Williams will fit into the roster, but just getting him into the building is ginormous. Dinkytown Athletes is working, the Gophers’ NIL is working it is now time to show it on the field.
