Gophers land 2nd-highest QB commit under PJ Fleck

PJ Fleck and his Gophers staff are red-hot on the high school recruiting trail. Laguna Beach High School QB Jackson Kollock was the latest 2025 recruit to commit to the Maroon & Gold. Formerly committed to Washington, verbally committed to Minnesota Thursday night, after visiting the school earlier in the week. With other top offers from Colorado, Cal and Washington State 247sports ranks him as the 21st-best QB in the country, while On3sports has him as No. 26.

Who is Jackson Kollock?

Kollock hails from one of the prettiest cities on the West Coast, Laguna Beach, California. Amidst his junior campaign he verbally committed to Washington on Oct. 23, but when Huskies’ head coach Kalen DeBoer left for Alabama, Kollock de-committed only two days later on Jan. 14.

As a freshman, he attended Rancho Santa Margarita High School, before transferring to Laguna Beach the following year. In his first season starting as a sophomore he was named CIF-SS Offensive Player of the Year, leading his team to an 8-1 record, and their their first CIF title game in 60 years. He completed 66% of his passes for 2,202 yards with 32 TDs and 3 INTs. Also added 94 yards and 5 TDs on the ground. Last year as a junior his team went 9-2, getting to to the first round of the CIF Division 7 playoffs. He completed 57.7% of his balls for 3,174 yards with 41 TDs and 5 INTs, adding 324 yards on the ground and 8 TDs.

Listed at 6-foot-3.5-inches, 225 pounds, Kollock has the prototypical size of a big-time QB prospect. He and Laguna Beach played in the CIF Division 7 playoffs last season, which is one of the highest levels of California High School football. He has incredible touch and overall athleticism for a player his age. He has all the traits and intangibles to contribute very early in his collegiate career.

Coming off a 6-7 season and landing a QB prospect of Kollock’s prowess is an incredibly impressive recruiting win from Fleck and his staff. Obviously, in today’s landscape, nothing is final until a pen is put to paper, but Kollock’s verbal commitment should be celebrated. Minnesota’s 2025 class now has three commitments for its 2025 class, which now has a tremendous foundation to build off.
